I have subsisted on lies
To swallow disbelief whole
All power resides in the belly
And as we breathe it expands to
Fill the outer reaches of our
Hearts spilling over onto
Sidewalks and cross-sections of
City streets where the lights don’t
Change just crying in the pit of
All this frustration and homelessness
As buildings flake and crumble
I am reminded that I do not
That I have lived here for centuries even
Before all that was before
That I have lied to myself to forget
That I made the moon and the sun
That I crafted the poetry of winds and
Tides and that I am one among many
Who love and cry in corners because
We have forgotten which is just
Another manifestation of
The electricity we hide beneath our fingertips
That burns though we are
Blind to it
