Love Meditations

Amidst visions of pine barrens and
Salt water shores where summers have
Lived out their life cycles
Over centuries
Gravity reminds me that the earth will
Never let me go
But there’s an empty sense of
Rootedness that is missing when the
Sun sets on the west and not
In the mist of city lights
And fly over country
The question of belonging is reciprocal:
Where do I belong is also
What belongs to me? Who?
Ownership would be tenuous but it’s more
Like breathing into the palm of your hand
Feeling your own warmth
Ricochet back onto your body
