You Could Be Beautiful

This sunset is performing for herself only
But I’ll watch. The sky is a pure neon pink,
An American stereotype with palm trees and
Plastic flamingos littering the streets.
Paradise means a place where we can be
Free of ourselves, so I don’t think this
Is it. Love is invisible to those who don’t
See one another. I laugh as I dance alone
In my car – there is no one out here, I am
Surrounded by ghosts with cell phones.
Home is so far away but at least I
Can still feel my shadow self calling,
Reminding me to feed the darkness as well
As the lightness because we are nothing
If we cannot be honest with ourselves.

Always seriously joking and rambunctiously soft-spoken.
